Koukaki district is located on the southeast side of Filopappou hill in Athens. It borders the areas of Petralona, Kallithea, Neos Kosmos, the Acropolis and Makrigianni and is crossed by Syggrou Avenue. Koukaki is a densely populated area, saturated since the 1960s and 1970s.However, it remains quite an expensive district, due to its location, as it is located below the Acropolis and the Hill of Philopappos and extremely close to the historic center of Athens. It is also a lively area with many opportunities for shopping and entertainment. Metro line 2 passes through Koukaki and is served by Fix station. It owes its name to the large bedding factory of "Koukakis", which operated before the war in Syggrou, at the height of FIX. Similar naming of existing surnames has occurred e.g. for Chaftia, for Goudi etc..
