XYLOPOLI THE AREA: Xylopoli is a village in Thessaloniki Prefecture with a population of about 800 permanent residents. It is located on the 46th kilometer of the old Thessaloniki – Serres national road, west of Mount Vertikos and at an altitude of 540 meters. It is a local municipality of the Lagadas Municipality and was the seat of the Kapodistrian Municipality of Lachanas until 2010. Until 1929 it was called Ligovani. It is one of the oldest settlements in the prefecture of Thessaloniki and its existence was mentioned as early as Roman times by Pliny the Elder.
