The small village of Malaxa is located on the hills south of Souda at an altitude of 470 mt. In antiquity Malaxa was under the influence of Cydonia (ancient Chania) which saw its birth in the Neolithic era but the real development took place during the Minoan civilization. Malaxa has always been a strategic place for all the occupants of the island as from here it is easy to control the port and the sea but also the mountains behind it. For this reason it was the scene of many wars and in 1860 the tower of Malaxa was built as a place of control and combat, which was partially destroyed by the Cretan rebels in 1897. In the village you can find a traditional "kafeneio" as well as some rentals which are available for the the summer season. There is a tavern about 1 km away. In the village you can also find the Horse Riding Center of Chania. Souda bay where you can find all the necessary services and amenities and also hop on a ferry to Piraeus is only 7km away.
